Default Radio Speakers

Does anyone have any advice on where to mount the speakers for the radio?

I do not want to cut into any of the sheet metal, or even the trim (door-cards etc.) Where were the originally mounted? Does anyone have any recommendations for types of speaker - hopefully something small that can be hidden in a nook or cranny.

Thanks in advance.

hi
I think you can mount under the dashboard / speedometer panel. Use small speakers.

How about in the rear panel behind the seats but surface mounts?
Any securing holes for screws would be invisible when removed.
I have a set of mx5 seats recovered to match the rear seat. They come with speakers in the headrests, handy as it's invisible but easy to hear!

I think the side position behind the front seats is best. The appearance up front and viewed though rear window is not compromised, see photo ye

I found that they work pretty well under the seats and are pretty discreet. wouldn't know they were there unless you went looking for them.

Mine are under the dash on either end. The drivers is positioned so that you can just grab the bonnet catch with room for your fingers. I find that these are a bit weedy and some people shove a sub woofer under the seat.

I've also seen specially constructed boxes on the rear parcel shelf. Not cutting right into it but sitting. You could do it so that there was almost a new floor to the parcel shelf, with the speakers underneath, so that you couldn't spot them from outside.

My new trick now is to have a portable blutooth speaker in the car linked to my iphone. This is the easiest and gives me music, and all internet radio stations.

Hi folks,

I agree with Tom. This is the best solution IMO.
I've taken some pictures for you: tweeters in the front, under the dashboard, and woofers in the back, on the parcel unit, under a wooden constructed boxes covered in sound insulation felt. No drills/holes/screws. It is just sitting on it.
I hope it helps.

Best,
Mauro

Many thanks to all who have responded and gone to the bother of attaching photos - greatly appreciated and really helpful.

I will try and source some under dash or under seat speakers - and see if I can tolerate it without the larger sub woofers.
thanks again - What a great resource this forum is.

The original radio had one speaker, as it was a mono system. The speaker was located in the centre of the rear parcel shelf. If you lift up the carpet from the rear shelf you will see an oval opening for the speaker. A speaker grill was either rectangular in shape or oval and finished in chrome or stainless.

Here is a picture of an oval speaker grill

Also there is one for sale on ebay at the moment.

Who might sell a drop-in replacement for that original rear parcel speaker? I prefer not to cut or modify generic off-the-shelf speakers.
