Default Rubber connector between filler neck and fuel tank

Hi

Can anyone advise the correct procedure to change the rubber connector between filler neck and fuel tank on a 2001 V70XC?

Ours has sprung a leak (see picture taken after petrol has been poured into the filler). We are not in a good position to do the repair as we are away from home and staying off the A66 near Barnard Castle and got limited tools on us.

A local garage on the A66 looked at it earlier when the whole filling line was dry, giving them no direct indication of the leak's location, said that the rear suspension would probably need to be dropped, but this does not sound right.

We have a replacement connector on order, which will be arriving in a few days time. When it arrives; if it is not the sort of job that can be done lying under the car with limited tooling, we need to either need to take the car to a good garage in the area (anyone know of one?) or back to the one on the A66 with a printout of the procedure.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Could I please ask how you got this sorted in the end? I think I face the same problem and have just received the connector.

Thanks

They've never been back on since they asked the question.

Well spotted, thanks. It is a bit frustrating when we don't get to hear the outcomes of so many problems.

I had a leak on mine when filling it, as did my uncle and a couple of others on here. It is probably the small rubber connector between the filler pipe and tank, rather than at the top end. If you put in a litre from a can and look underneath, it should be pretty obvious.

The pipe is a couple of quid, but the bad news is it's a pig to fit! I couldn't even touch it, let alone change it and in the end, 2 guys struggled for an hour and a half with it on the ramps, eventually dropping the rear of the subframe and supporting the whole lot on a gearbox jack to get to it.

I know the Op hasn't been back, but we had this with an AWD, not XC. The rear suspension had to dropped to gain access.

Default Filler pipe rubber elbow

Hello,
I have a 2003 V70 which gushes fuel whenever I put fuel in.
The leak is defiantly from the rubber elbow that connects the filler pipe to the tank.
I have the plastic wheel arch liner off and can see fuel running out of the hose when I add fuel from a can.
My question is, how on earth do you change the thing?
Any suggestions would be most welcome, Thanks

Default Bodge job fixed it

Although I managed to release the pipe from the fuel tank there was no way I could remove the filler pipe from the car. I took drastic action and cut the pipes in half as I wasn't in the position to drop the subframe. When I reassembled it I put a sleeve inside the pipe, a hose and two jubilee clips to seal it. No more leaks. Car is a bit long in the tooth so wasn't worth paying out for a proper job. Just hope it passes the MOT!
