Default V40 1.9D Sport Lux, Terra Grey, 2003, full history, 298K

I'm seriously looking at the new shape S40, so once my V40 goes past 300K, I'll be wanting someone to take her from me and give her the retirement treatment/death by snusnu that she deserves. Maybe even to become cherished, with a bit of TLC she's a very good candidate.

Exterior is Terra Grey with coded trim.

Interior is black with cream leather and Cyborg trim.

Good stuff

No expense has been spared over the last 15 years. Full service history (first 80k by Volvo dealer, subsequent 170k by Volvo independent specialist, all following services by my local very good mechanic using only Volvo parts, except where they're not as good as aftermarket...) Meticulously serviced to the book. Every single receipt from new is provided. It fills a file wallet!!
Winter Pack
Family Pack
Luggage net
Front struts are Sport, the ride is much better as a result.
Xenon headlamps

It's just had an oil service, and timing belt done at last major service in October.
Recent battery (still under warranty).
Two brand new UR3 tyres on front, 6mm UR3 on rear, I have a couple of winter tyres to throw in as well. Crater wheels recently refurbished by Yorvik in BBS anthracite.
Condition is generally excellent all round, inside and out. Leather is ageing but no tears or flaking.
Front aftermarket (Evo) rigid strut supplied, but not fitted (insurance spiked last time so I removed it)
Rear aftermarket strut supplied but never bothered to fit it
Roof rails fitted
Roof bars (transverse)
Roof bars (standard)
A few spares (calipers, air filters, etc.)
Dragon Tuning box supplied but not fitted, should increase mpg and bhp and torque slightly.
HU1205 with subwoofer, and a Grom USB-2P and hard wired USB socket fitted.
Bluetooth hands free thing, if you want it.
Front dashcam fitted, Rexing V1P. Can't be bothered removing it so may as well include it.

The bad stuff (all of it)

Front bumper corners both scraped in car parks. Slight scuffs on driver's door from a passing k**bhead. Various minor scratches and scuffs all round, nothing major.
O/S/R door outside showing a touch of bubbling on the bottom edge; O/S/F door inside the car has a small rust patch on the weld seam; one or two edges starting to corrode slowly. Otherwise it's basically rust-free inside and out.
There's a slight vibration at 80mph. It's not there at 70, which makes me think the shocks might be getting a bit old?
Slight oil leak from somewhere, probably throttle body gasket or similar. Not at all major but I'd planned to get the t/b removed and cleaned at some point as routine maintenance.
Stalls if you floor it at low revs in high gear. Has to be electronic. I just don't do that and it's fine.
Driver's heated seat doesn't work
Headlamp wipers don't work
One of the load cover lugs has snapped off, cover still holds in place though

Price

£1000, but I'm open to sensible offers from lovely people. Please keep her on the road for another 100k. She'll do it, I'm sure! It's in better mechanical condition now than when I bought it....

Given the mileage, I'm not expecting much for it, and trade in would be scrap value, but given the condition and history, I'm asking a good chunk of cash. I realise this will put many people off. I don't care. Those people don't deserve this car anyway.

It's still my daily driver so the mileage will increase. I'm doing about 1500 a month.

I've just bought an S40 Sport D5 2007

I've posted a similar ad to friends on Facebook, and had some solid interest in the V40.

Seriously, I don't think I will ever find a car with history records better than this. I realise that this is the Volvo forums, and someone will no doubt have kept a P1800 from new with every receipt in a meticulous filing system

I have had a ridiculously attractive quote from eSure for multicar though, £650 for both cars, so I might well end up keeping this one, and using it as daily driver while I boot the S40 around at the weekends.

Just an update -- clearly I'm not actually expecting an offer of £1000 for it, but at present, I'll be keeping & using both cars, so not in any hurry to sell the V40. I am in love with it still.

It's worth £400 "scrap" including selling the refurbished wheels, so start there if you're interested in making me a sensible offer... whatever happens to it after purchase, that's the worst case scenario for you.

I'll leave this post up for posterity, and will update if anything changes.

(If you want a decent cheap one, there's another for sale for scrap value at the moment!)

I am no longer driving to work, and I don't use the estate much now, so keeping two cars seems almost completely pointless. I can afford to keep both, but this car deserves to be driven.

Given that I am becoming addicted to the power of the D5, I'm considering selling the V40 again.

It's now done 304K but all other details above are still correct. I have been tempted to get the calipers refurbished & painted recently, but that expense would be frivolous in the extreme. (I have a spare full set of calipers, and they'll come with the car, in case you want to do that.)

Looking for offers *above* £500, given the ridiculously good service history, and the 99% reliability of it. (The wheels should be worth £200 on eBay if sold separately with good tyres on.)

I'm more bothered about it going to a good home though. It deserves to be kept on the road for a good few years yet, and actually used by someone who will love it as I (and the previous owners) have.

Still available.

Happy to accept offers on it under £500.

There's a spot of rust appearing on the front o/s wing, it's now done 306k, otherwise info all as per above.

Still available. I'm thinking of selling the wheels separately and offering the car for "more than scrap value" with basic wheels attached

Reasonable offers above scrap value now being considered -- I recently turned down £250 with the wheels, but my patience for driving a hard bargain is limited I'd be happy to put it through MOT as a prior agreement for the sale, as the car is mechanically sound.

Mileage still 306k.

It'll go on eBay eventually with a full MOT and some cheapo wheels fitted, if I don't get offered a fair price for the whole car/wheels.

There's a few bubbles of rust on the roof that I've found this week, so I'm lowering my expectations for sale -- it's still a solid, mega-reliable workhorse that someone can run into the ground, but I'm being realistic: it owes me nothing, I'm not using it, I don't need it, and it's probably got 2 years before the rust starts to become problematic, so it's time to let it go.

Right, my T4 is literally falling apart around me. It's breaking my heart because I've come to love it, but there's just so much wrong with it, and it's so rusty. I think it's terminal. The only way I can see to save it is by a complete dismantle, and rebuild on a better bodyshell. Yep, it's that bad. And that's before we get started with the mechanicals. Today, the brakes did something wierd. About a week ago I hit an unmarked speed hump at full tilt. I dunno what it's done under there, but it's rattling like nobody's business now.

I think it's had it. And I'm not one to give up easily.

So. I am in the market for a solid reliable workhorse. But I'm not fussed about fancy wheels or electronic gizmos. What's the chance we might be able to strike a deal?
