Another spanner in the works as though to say? What experience does anyone have of a BSR remap? At present I am swayed towards an MTE as from the feedback of members it is more smooth about power delivery.

Chris, there's a mixture of posts here some D5 some T5, very different beasts.
Rica 210 for D5 gives (according to Rica) 210bhp & 480 nm torque, smooth as a cashmire codpiece, infact quite petrol like in its response pulling to the red line (& beyond!) easily without the usual asthmatic top end. Amazingly economy has improved slightly (2-3 mpg) with careful driving. The ppc unit & software was 500 quid from a Volvo main dealer, Lipscombe Kent ~ they are not interested in MTE

VHS vs Beta lol

ps. Rica do other maps for the D5

The OP has a T5, which is why everyone but you is talking about the RICA 310, it was not a typo

Barring considering upgrading brakes to cope with the extra speed you may encounter, is upgrading the clutch necessary for any PPC upgrade, or just specific ones?

My ME7 T5 with an MTE remap is running standard everything else enginewise except a Ferrita catback and a panel filter. For now

Best advice is to do a thorough Stage 0 of the car.

Thanks all, but it is looking like a day out to Dons in the smoke. Just had the brake discs replaced with Black Diamond grooved and Ferodo DS 2500's and Goodridge stainless brake pipes. Brakes are so much better and responsive now.

Next step MTE and a Cat back system?

The standard Volvo clutch holds up very well with increases in engine outputs.

The most damaging thing is to indulge in full throttle, dropped clutch starts which will knacker any standard or aftermarket clutch.

Certainly as far as MTE rewritten software is concerned you will never, ever get poorly controlled boost which does lead to spikes of boost lower down in the rev. range which will in turn put extra strain on the transmission giving higher wear rates in the longer run.

With 11 years now being in the Volvo tuning market I have to say that I have almost never heard of a 'clutch problem'.

Regards, Don.

PS attached is a print out of a Volvo engine with MTE software, albeit installed in a Focus ST. You will see from it absolute copybook mapping and the resultant generous and plateau like torque curve together with a perfectly formed power plot.....making for the most rapid progress on the road with superb driveability.
