My XC70 has ATE calipers on the front and TRW at the rear, and I think the discs are Zimmermann. Volvo likes to spreading the love around.

They may originally spec a system from a manufacturer, be that ate, trw, etc. With model changes they might upgrade one end, and either that manufacturer doesn't have suitable part off the shelf or another company is significantly cheaper, maybe both, thus you can end up with ATE/TRW, TRW/Bosch, etc etc. Discs are bought to tender to suit the whole range, they only tender from good manufacturers though such as ATE, Zimmerman, TRW etc. Pads to spec/tender/license so may stay same throughout or might switch suppliers to same spec, again always a top tier company. So whilst to price, its only to the most economical premium price... |
