There are a couple of indies in York but I don't know about Harrogate. As far as I know only one of the indies in York has Vida. Perhaps someone from the Leeds area might know a place. I know there's a main dealer on the estate near Knaresborough but I've never used them. You could try Hutton Brothers in Shipton by Beningborough https://www.huttonbros.co.uk/ They're an indie and used to have Vida.

Talk to Marshall, Leeds. £140 plus vat didn’t seem bad value to me for software and adaptations. See what they have to say about transmission fluid change.

Also, Mill Volvo at Knaresborough have been helpful in the past. Mind you, I haven’t used them lately and I haven’t spoken to them about this problem. Have a word with both, see if they fill you with confidence. I guarantee RC, York will not fill you with confidence.

I have to agree with you there, dreadful service for a main dealer. I've experienced rude staff, hopeless and inaccurate diagnostics and expensive repairs that didn't even fix the original fault. I've found the parts department at their Malton branch to be much better. Recently I ordered some parts from the York branch and I still haven't had a call to say they've arrived. I went in yesterday to collect them to be told the parts manager was too busy to see me, after waiting 15 minutes I gave up a left. That's the last chance I'll be giving them.

This is a known problem for the last 5 years, volvo have a fix ... the adaption is the OLD process , it will need modified improved ring type seals on the main shaft inside the gear box ... i would take it to another dealer , they are very poor telling you that.
