Default XC60 Queries

Evening

Just had a couple of questions and wanted peoples opinions. I have a XC60 D4 what fuel to people use just the standard or premium? I also have keyless entry but the car does the car automatically lock itself as mine doesn't seem to do that.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have always used Premium fuel and have never had a problem and I know it is more expensive but IMHO it is worth every penny and you will never regret it.
It does not auto lock.

no volvo cars automatically lock . a recipe for disaster ! just press the door handle button or the remote before you walk away . easy enough :-)

The type of fuel to use has prompted much debate here and a thread search will show you most peoples opinions.

Personally, I haven’t noticed any difference between standard and premium fuel, other than the price.

As for the locking, there is a setting that needs to be ticked under the locking section of the options, to allow the doors to lock once moving (Iassume that’s what you meant?)

DERV to BS EN590

That is all you need to know and use.

Oddly enough this has been discussed in another topic this very evening. It wasn't with you was it? Anyhow, search in the top half dozen topics, the last few posts, and you should find it. Yes, there is an 'anti-hijack' locking feature as standard which you can choose to lock automatically as the car moves away. There is also the related facility to choose which doors unlock when you do unlock the car, again to help prevent hijackers jumping in with you.

No doubt these features are important when in some less safe areas and in some cities.

I think premium is only marginally more expensive due to better fuel consumption.

I'm currently experimenting with premium diesels. After two consecutive tankfuls of BP Ultimate my carefully calculated MPG has significantly dropped. Because of the increased cetane rating of the BPU I am surprised and disappointed, although I do realise this sort of experiment is likely to be spurious.

Yesterday I filled up with Shell V-Power and will see how a couple of tanks of that goes.

To be honest, I do have low expectations. At best I would expect the greater cost to be be only partially offset by improved MPG.

Premium, and V power etc. is not all about just fuel consumption over a period of time.

Regarding Price difference actually it is quite a lot in some garages Esso for one charge unto 12p a litre more for supreme over normal, it does vary though.

What else is it about?

What 'additives' (or whatever) are you aware of to justify the extra expense?

And if these premium fuels really are loaded with 'additives' (or whatever) then there must be less actual fuel in each litre; and fuel is energy!
