Default 2003 Volvo S60 2.4 S D5 Manual Spares / Repairs - Offers

Hi Everyone

I'm looking to sell my 2003 S60 2.4 S D5 Manual Saloon which I have used as a donor car for my 2004 S60 2.0T S, for bodywork and interior parts. It's silver in colour, and has MOT until 11th August with only advisories on last MOT being both front brake hoses being slightly deteriorated. The engine has only covered 74k miles and the car does start and drive. I bought it as a spares / repairs car due to it needing a main engine oil seal, new dual mass fly wheel, new clutch and new clutch slave cylinder. I have also noticed a power steering fluid leak which looks to be coming from the reservoir as I can wipe fresh fluid from the underside of the power steering fluid feed pipe. I did drive it off the transport lorry when it arrived and I couldn't find anything wrong with the engine, and the clutch seemed fine, although I admit I am no mechanic. The chap I bought it from did say that he has always ensured oil was present in the engine since noticing the issues if it had to be started, but has been sat up for some time. I have seen no proof of the faults it supposedly had when I bought it, so this information should be taken with a pinch of salt.

As I said it was used as a donor car and I have swapped the following parts over (any defects on swapped parts are listed):

- Drivers door and both passengers side doors (speakers not installed on donor car, rear passengers door has large dent, front passengers door has slight dent and drivers door has minor dent)
- Passengers front wing (some scraches but not too bad)
- Passengers side wing mirror (no faults with either mirror)
- Front bumper (various marks and scratches)
- Both headlight units (lenses cracked on both, wiper motors not connected)
- Fuel flap lock mechanism removed
- Both front door seals (drivers side slightly perished)
- Centre dash speaker grill (has a Sat Nav mount professionally installed so doesn't actually sit in dash properly)
- Centre console (paint faded)
(I still have to swap drivers door and passengers wing, and hoping this will be done by the end of the weekend, if not early part of next week)

Everything else on the car is original. The seats, steering wheel, door panels, stereo, mats and electrical controls all look in very good condition. As far as I am aware all the electrics work. Will be testing alternator, power steering, A/C, and as much of the electrics inside the car as I can, once I have charged the battery. Will update this thread with any other faults that I come across, if there are any. I didn't notice any dash warning lights / EML's on when I started it last, but will check this once battery is charged and I can start the car, and will provide an update on this. It's on 16" alloys which look in good condition, tyres not so good.

I am looking at what offers I can get for this car, in the hope I can get a good portion of my money back for what I paid. It seems a shame to scrap the car, especially with the low mileage engine which I've seen go for anything between £300 and £1000 on ebay, so could be a good car if it could be resurrected, or there are plenty of parts still available on it to make some money on. As I said the car can be driven, but I wouldn't recommend it due to the possible faults. If space wasn't an issue I would strip it myself and sell parts individually, but I don't have the space, so the car has to go as a whole. Car is located in North Dorset (SP8 postcode).

If you have any questions then please do not hesitate to ask, and I will do my best to answer. I thought I'd offer to you guys on this forum first before I list it publically. I won't be accepting offers less than the scrap price I have been quoted which was just shy of £400. Car should be available early next week, depending on weather.

Right, quick update for you guys.

Got the battery charged and it started first time. On idle the running of the engine was lumpy and the was some engine rocking, with the rocking more so at the timing belt end, although I wouldn't have said it was severe. Upon checking the engine oil level I noticed that it had been filled well over the max on the dipstick, so not sure if this could be the cause of the lumpiness and rocking of the engine. I will drain some oil out and try again to see if that improves the idle running. I revved the engine slightly and only very briefly and noticed that the engine ran much more smoothly, this I believe could be a sign that it does need dual mass flywheel work doing. I quickly checked the clutch operation and was surprised to find that all gears could be selected and operation seemed fine, maybe a bit high on the pedal but I've owned cars with high clutch bite points before and they have gone on for the entire time I've owned those cars. No EML or other warning lights showed up on the dash. All electrics did work as I had expected.

As I said I will check running again once oil level has been dropped, and post an update when done. Hoping to get around to that today.
