Seems a lot but in reality a small price to pay for a perfect fit and ensuring your gearbox doesn't p1ss itself all over the road I'd say..
Sometimes it's just worth sucking it up and paying That said most people don't really do the gibbons method at least as far as the posts I read on here. Generally the advice is drain it, top up, do 2-300 miles, repeat 2 or 3 times, reset fluid counter in vida, and depending who you ask also reset the adaptations (but from what I read it'll adapt by itself anyway and it can cause problems in some cases) |

1) It's called a price gauge.
2) Here's an alternative and be ready for a good cry: https://www.ipdusa.com/products/5777...-430011-114086 You might want to call these blokes and see if they'll ship in a padded envelope instead of a refrigerator sized box. 3) Since this is your first cooler line disconnect be aware that the catches depress very little to free themselves. I was amazed. There's no need to push 'em hard to drive 'em inward. 4) Then, be ready for the steady strong pull. I rolled my fist around the hose and squeezed. Who knows, maybe yours will pop out effortlessly. People warn about CV shafts sticking tenaciously but mine came out as easily as could be. 5) If you do the Gibbons method I suggest starting with a drain & fill. Do this first with no driving afterward. This way when you start the repetitive 2 litre pump-outs (and stop to add the 2 litres of new fluid) you'll be pouring into a fresh sump and the transmission will be sucking up new fluid from the start. You'll get much more efficient results. 6) Just to confuse things....I gotta tell you nothing felt as good as seeing (through the clear plastic tubing) black fluid exiting my transmission then seeing it turn clear red. 7) How many miles are on your vehicle? |

It’s done 143k and a supposedly Volvo indi did the transmission flush 12k ago but only charged for 7ltrs. Didn’t seem enough and today I just got through 12ltrs before it even started to run clearer. That was with a sump drain though

A dealer uses a pump to get all the old stuff out, so they dont need to waste countless litres dumping or flushing. They also don't need to needlessly disturb ageing hoses and pipes and risk damage. It was less than £300 last time I had them do mine - not super cheap, but not so expensive that it was worth the fannying about and risk of problems DIYing one of the less efficient methods.

I thought the purpose of doing dump'n'flush in stages was to give the new fluid a chance to circulate round the valve body and torque convertor as well, does the pump method pull everything out from all the places in the box then and they just fill it again as if from dry
Just draining it and filling it again isn't really any hardship to be honest if you've got the front end lifted anyway doing an oil change for example, it should really be regular maintenance on the same sort of time scale |

All things considered, the OP might want to do a D&F first. He may be surprised at how clean the fluid actually is. If it's near clean, do another in a couple of hundred.
If it drains jet black (or some other hideous colour), rethink your plan. |
