25% drop in fuel consumption after full service
Hi,
Just posting to see if anyone has had this issue or can advise on what the problem might be? My 2006 XC70 AWD D5 went for a full 112000 mile service recently. Beforehand it was doing 43/44 mpg. Afew days later the swirl flap rod broke - now fixed. I did then reset the trip and now it is only doing 35 mpg. I knew something was wrong straight away because the instant readout was showing less than 30 when in 5th gear on the flat - usually this is well over 40. Any suggestions? Has the garage damaged something? They did replace the fuel filter - in their word it was very bad - and they did 'flush' the system. Could it be something wrong with the replaced swirl flap rod? Any ideas would be helpful please. Thanks in advance. |

First thing that springs to mind is they over tightened the handbrake or replaced pads without cleaning properly and a brake is dragging.
Second, a flush is new to me. How exactly was that done? Third, the swirl arm 'fixed' as in epoxy string and wire or replaced ? Fourth, have they disconnected the MAF sensor and forgotten to reconnect , maybe when replacing the air filter. Is the car driving right not down on power or pickup ? What else is on the service invoice? |

Secondly you reset the average fuel consumption meter , when did you last do that ? Does the handbrake feel "tighter" ? Is the fuel gauge going down faster than you are used to ? I would leave it a bit longer and see if things average out ..

Shouldn't it read: 25% increase in fuel consumption?

Fast replies
Thanks for the prompt replies chaps. Yep should have read increase in fuel consumption!
The swirl thing was fixed by the garage using a drill and pinned. The service invoice said these items were done - engine flush, change oil and filter, air filter, fuel filter, cabin filter, all levels checked. I immediatley checked the brakes- they arent dragging and are all ok. |

forgot to say
.. that the car is lumpy when cold but goes ok when hot other than a misfire at about 1800 revs.
