Is This Hose Supposed To Be There?

I am restoring a 91 240 sedan. In the trunk, in the right hand wheel well, is a black plastic hose, about 2 ft long. Maybe 1/4 inch diameter. It is just sitting there. Not connected. For the life of me I can't see what it could, or should, be connected to.
It looked like the hose wants to go through the drain hole in the well....

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Correct: one side through the drain, the other side to the plastic cover around the fuel cap

Got it! Rather ashamed that I missed it, but it is in place now and should stay there.
