"Is the cold start injector the one on the top"?

Yes:~ has a push in electrical connector- straight forward removal for a test.
Opposite the air admittance valve.

I’ll have to take a pic

How do I test? Check?

Do I have a idle valve? I can’t see one.

I just filled up and the car smells a bit like petrol and it struggled to start this morning after a long run - like it was flooded

Smell of petrol could also be a leak, especially if the lines have been disturbed to fit a new pump?

Yeah checking them too but don’t see any

And the engine does seem to get flooded

I’d retweaked the idle screw as I’d opened it up

I like the idea of checking the cold start injector

You can pull the injector out and point it into a jar. Keep the electrical connection plugged in. Disable the ignition (pull the king lead?). Get someone to crank the engine on the key and watch the flow of fuel from the injector.

(Be careful of sparking HT leads anywhere near spraying fuel)

You should at most get flow for a few seconds then it should stop dead, no dribbling.

If it keeps spraying while cranking there is likely a problem with the thermotime switch in the back right side of the engine.

Next test, hotwire the fuel pump (join fuse locations 4 and 6 with a croc clip cable). And watch the injector. If you see anything come out of the injector at this point, the injector is faulty.

Tested my cold start injector today - sprayed nicely for a few secs then stopped so happy that’s ok

There is a drag when turning the flywheel which seems to be the power steering pump BUT that sousing explain the slight fuel smell.

Anyway, i gave up a bit and went back to tarting up the tank…

Sprayed up the sills with black stone guard spray paint

And gave the tow bar a spray too

Way better

Yup, the towbar was really shown up by the shiny new exhaust.
Chroming it would have been nice...

I have an identical towbar awaiting fitment to a saloon, however I've been holding off because of cutting the rear plastic valance: Yours looks factory, not a hacked up post-sale fitment.

Did volvo offer a precut valance as an option, or is yours just a very good job?

No idea but it does fit really well around the tow bar
