Default Hu-850 repairs

Hi everyone,

My research suggests my hu-850 is knackered. Looks like it's working, all the lights and display on etc but no sound apart from a popping noise.

I'm trying to find someone to repair it but I'm struggling. Central services in Ipswich/Essex seem to be no longer trading.

Does anyone have any recommendations on a repairer? I'm reluctant to buy a second hand one with failures being so common.

Cheers,
Swede Steed

Just rang them and they don't do them. Found one company but they want £395.

My HU-850 broke too, apparently a pretty unreliable unit. I chopped the cage about and managed to get the older HU-803 in there which actually sounds better. The only annoyance is that I had to cut the aluminium trim in half (the bit that goes round the edge)

Going to fit a Bluetooth module to it soon, a China bay £10 special...

I couldn't bear spending a ridiculous amount on a replacement 850 from eBay when it would most likely break again. These 803s are supposed to be more reliable, and they are a lot cheaper second hand, win win. The cut trim and hacking about with the cage is the only annoyance, but I can't do without music!

He has replied and is going to repair it for a much more reasnoble price.

Daft question time. Can I drive with the radio disconnected? I know you can't unplug the climate module with power on or you get an srs light. Any radio issues?

Mine generates a AUM fault, no comms (because its not there) but it's not visible in any way without vida and doesn't affect the driving at all
