Default Dpf regen

Was just on my way home after dropping the daughter at work , had the car scanner app running, when I noticed coolant temp at 92 , egr duty at 100 even at idle and the dpf temp rocket to 630c , soot level was 19g and by the time I got home it had dropped to 0 ,egr duty fell , coolant temp dropped along with dpf temp , a completed regen in town traffic , some system vovlo has 😁

That's a very reassuring post for someone like me whose XC70 does a high percentage of its mileage in local town trips with short bursts of maximum possible speeds on short lengths of dual carriageway.

IIRC when the regen starts, it will pause only when standing still or by hard acceleration. If driving normally, it will regenerate, even in town. From the experience, it takes 22-24 minutes (on mine at least) to finish regen when in town traffic.

I've been lucky. it takes 10-15 mins commuting, only once have I had the warning about the soot filter. Took an extra 20 mins to go to work and soot had dropped to 2g.
Still impressed even if my EGR is deactivated. I didn't realise it used EGR so extensively on a regen.

NOW it made sense why it was so crudded up when I bought the car and the DPF looks like its fried blue. Short town journeys. I had an inch thick of sooty guff to clear out of the intake and EGR.

Sounds good. Would you mind telling me what app you have please? I'm tempted by the Carly app having used it with a previous car. Unfortunately I sold the adapter after changing marques.

I'm using an app called " car scanner Pro " , there is a free version which works perfectly well

So can I assume its the "erg duty at 100" that's the clue to a regen is taking place, and the high DPF temperature a secondary nod. There was a thread on here a while ago asking how to tell a regen was taking place and I did not totally understand the replies.

BWT I'd have thought a soot level of 19g was not at a point to cause a regen, I thought the figure was nearer 50g+ - something else i got wrong
Cheers Bob

I do around 120 local miles each week and a round trip to London of 139 miles each way. On the last few London trips, I’ve spotted the DPF regen getting later and later on the return journey, which suggests that the interval for my style of driving equates to around 400 miles. I monitor using the Car Scanner app with a bespoke dashboard showing DPF temperature, DPF pressure and DPF soot.

Normal driving DPF temp is 295-345 degrees C. During regen, it rises to 600-650 degrees C.

DPF pressure doesn’t really tell me much - gets higher when I press the loud pedal. May change this to EGR duty.

DPF soot minimum is around 4.3g and gradually rises over the roughly 400 miles. My regen kicks in at approx 24.5g.

Monitoring the economy graph in the car shows a drop in economy of around 20-30% for the roughly 9-10 miles that the regen cycle takes.

Last night, the cycle hadn’t started until I was very close to home. Wasn’t impressed that this was happening after a 14hr day and wasn’t keen to let it stop mid-cycle, but I noticed the temp drop and soot level stabilised around 500 metres from home, so all good this time.
