S80 petrol fuel filter broken quick connector cure
Hi
I have a 1999 S80- a great car. I made the mistake of fitting a Crossland fuel filter- utter rubbish that will turn into a knuckle of rust in no time at all. Mine started to leak petrol, so I needed to replace it. The problem is the rust was so bad, the metal collar that the nylon quick connector fits over had swollen with rust so much, the connector wouldn’t release. If this happens to you, the solution is to either buy another connector (the internal diameter of the connector onto the filter is 8mm). If you work the connector round and round, it comes off pretty easily but you’ll need a jubilee clip when you refit it to the rubber pipe. I looked on eBay and Amazon, and the connector is a generic nylon thing- nothing bespoke to Volvo. Or, do what I did- cut the rubber hose above the connector and join it with a new piece of rubber fuel hose by means of a connector. For information the existing hose has an internal diameter of 6mm, so you’ll need a nylon 8mm to 6mm reducer. It’s such a tight fit, no jubilee clips are necessary. The reduced internal diameter at that point doesn’t lead to fuel starvation, so no worries there. I hope this is of some use to you |

Thanks for the write up.
Here's a basic coupler repair part: https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/NOE7...41&ir=2&tps=10 They come in metal too. They also come with 40cm of tubing attached for easy fitting to many extremes. They also make 'em in 90degree angles. THe 8mm is called 5/16" over here. |
