Outside temp sensor

Hi all
I've just changed the outside temp sensor on my 2002 v70 xc (the one under the drivers side wing mirror) and it now doesn't work at all, it just reads '--*c' I know the sensor works as I've checked the resistance and the connections are all fine.
Is there some kind of reset that will get it reading again?
Any help much appreciated.
