VOLVO V40 ALARM PROBLEM
HI, FIRST TIME USER HERE. I AM A TECHNICIAN AT A TOYOTA DEALER SO HAVE A GOOD KNOWLEDGE OF VEHICLES. I HAVE ONLY HAD THE VOLVO FOR A FEW WEEKS IT IS A VOLVO 1998 V40 2.0 CD IT WAS ALL FINE UNTILL LAST NIGHT BUT SINCE THEN I HAVE BEEN HAVING SOME ALARM TROUBLE. EVERYTIME IT IS LOCKED USING THE REMOTE ONE TO ONE AND A HALF HOURS THE ALARM GOES OFF AND THE LED IN THE NEARSIDE SPEAKER FLASHES QUICKLY. THE WINDOWS AND SUNROOF ARE ALL SHUT CORRECTLY, ALL THE DOOR AND BOOT SWITCHES ARE WORKING FINE TOO. I CAN'T FIND A BONNET PIN SWITH (IS IT PART OF THE CATCH MECHANISM?). IS IT POSSIBLE TO TURN DOWN THE ULTRASONICS? IF SO WHERE IS THE BOX TO DO SO? THEY WORK WHEN I SET THE ALARM AND MOVE ABOUT INSIDE. THE ALARM GOES OFF WHEREVER THE CAR IS PARKED (WORK OR HOME) IF THE CAR IS LOCKED WITH THE KEY INSTEAD OF THE FOB THEN IT IS OK BUT THE ALARM IS NOT SET. DOES ANYONE KNOW OF ANY COMMON PROBS THAT COULD CAUSE THIS OR HOW TO FIND OUT WHAT IS SETTING IT OFF? I KNOW WITH OTHER MANUFACTURERS YOU CAN GET LEDS TO FLASH QUICKLY A NUMBER OF TIMES AND MATCH UP TO A TABLE OF COMPONENTS EG INTERIOR SENSORS, BONNET SWITCH, DOOR SWITCH... ETC I WOULD BE REALLY GRATEFULL OF ANY INFO.

RE: VOLVO V40 ALARM PROBLEM
I occasionly have the same prob with mine, dont know bout all volvos but mine has an ultra sensitive motion censor..
best way to stop the alrm from sounding amd the alarm being enabled is to get into the car lock the doors using the lock button inside the car , and then hold down the lock button untill the locks pop up and go back down, this diactivates ur motion censor but alarm will still sound if sum one trys to force tere way in |

RE: VOLVO V40 ALARM PROBLEM
S/V40 are quite prone to the ultrasonic sensors failing causing the problem you describe. the original type go over-sensitive with age. you could do with having the fault codes read first. this should tell you if it is the sensors or if it's another fault with the system

RE: VOLVO V40 ALARM PROBLEM
THANKS FOR ALL INFO. IT WAS OVER SENSITIVE ULTRA SONICS. THE TRICK WITH THE CENTRAL LOCKING SWITCH ONLY WORKS ON CERTAIN MODELS BUT NOT MINE. I FOUND SOMEONE WHO WORKS AT LOCAL DEALERS AND FOUND WHERE ULTRA SONICS CONTROL UNIT IS AND UNPLUGGED THEM. NO PROBS SINCE! IF YOUR INTERESTED THE CONTROL UNIT IS BEHIND THE TRIM UNDER THE GLOVEBOX, IT HAS TWO GREEN PLUGS IN IT, UNPLUG THE ONE WITH THE THIN BLACK ULTRA SONIC WIRES TO IT. THANKS AGAIN.
