s40 2001 defrost
My windshield constantly fogs if the windows are closed. I hate running the defrost/AC in the winter but that is the only remedy. Anyone have a similar problem? Any solution?

RE: s40 2001 defrost
that usually happens when youve got recirc air butto pressed in, or perhaps your solenoid is dead.
do you ever get exhaust fumes in your car when following stinking deisles? if not, then i suspect the latter. |

RE: s40 2001 defrost
Air con - the experts say - should be run regularly (but not necessarily set 'full cold') year round. This keeps the system lubricated and sealed while minimising corrosion and the chance of expensive repairs that can run to several hundred pounds. Some say it should be run on 'full cold' for at least 10 minutes/week - others, including the motoring journalist 'Honest John' - see his website of the same name - say it's much better that it be left 'on' and turned to 'full cold' 10mins/week. It pays to dial in a little heat with the fan 10 mins. before parking all day/night so as to dry out the ducting and dry off the evaporator. That inhibits bacteria formation and the associated unpleasant odours. (As I understand it, anyway.)
You may imagine that it'd add overly to fuel consumption - but, again if I recall correctly, Honest John says the fuel penalty is minimal. That matches my personal experience with a 960, too. Environmental concerns aside, the extra fuel cost is minor compared to the cost (and less obvious environmental impact) of renewing components in a failed a/c system. This obviously would resolve your windows fogging...but, of course, it'd pay to thoroughly feel the carpets to check that you haven't got excess interior moisture due to a leak of some sort so contributing to fogging. |
