Wanted: early 164 gearknob
Hi,
I'm looking for the early type 164 gearknob, spherical with numbers moulded into the top. Must be good condition, but it doesn't matter if the paint for the numbers has chipped or faded. Thanks John |

164 gear knob
If only I knew last week! After a good friend died we had to clear his place, and sad to relate we had to scrap his '70 164.
It hadn't been on the road for twenty years, and the entire rear end had been cut off (don't ask me why!). The car was totally decrepit so went with its manual gearbox and seized-solid engine, but I rescued the foglamps for a fellow 164 driver - nothing else I'm afraid. Am hopeful of another scrapper in Essex, but must rescue a 144 for spares for my own car before that! Pity I have to keep hiring a trailer..... Paul |

Hi John,
I was just doing some usual browsing for parts on Ebay and came across a good looking shift knob that says is for a 164. Here is the link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Volvo...#ht_500wt_1182 It is posted on the U.S. Ebay site. Seller ships worldwide. Hope this is what you're looking for.

Hi Lesky,
Thanks for thinking of me! However, I have one like that already. It is the earlier, spherical type I am looking for. Cheers John |

I think you're looking for part # 680243. 99% sure that's the same one used on the later 1800's. I think they've only recently been discontinued which means that you'll likely find at least one new one on someone's(the usual suspects) shelf somewhere. I bought one myself only about 6 months ago for about $35US.
