When doing an ECM update with VIDA, it reads the SW id tags from the car, compares them to the SW database on Volvo's central server, and checks whether there is a newer software available.

Its impossible to update a wrong software with VIDA.

NEVER flash an older version over a newer update. Sometimes its not just ECM that gets updated, and if you flash an older ECM software but for example TCM has another software, this can cause problems, and in extreme cases (there are a few, but thank god pretty seldom...) a dead ECU.

Thanks for the info
Still wondering if people who had the upgrade as well, experience a delay in fuelcutoff when releasing the throtle?

It has probably wiped out your rica software , you are supposed to tell them the software isnt standard before you start .. and if you put the RICA back in it is likely to ruin the oil level and regeration mods just done . but we dont know what goes on inside the software do we ..

Due to what is written in the quotes is exactly why you should have remaps done at a good quality and reputable place. This is the importance of a remap place starting off with a copy of YOUR current ECU map and not just use some generic off the shelf.

Senario - Your car has just been service by Volvo and some brand new updates been carried out - car is running sweet and your well happy - you now want the added benifits of a remap (extra economy - yeah right! - broom brooom...).

You find a nice cheap place on internet that may even offer for a little van to come to you and do a remap for a BARGAIN price £150. Unless this bargain mapper starts off with a copy of YOUR current ECU map and custom maps it there and then, it is just some off the shelf GENERIC map that will NOT have the current updates your car now needs to have incorporated (as the quoted comments above) - this can actually lead to disaster or some seriously rough running. If your lucky the dodgy van mapper may have taken a copy of your current map and be able to return your car to standard but there again - maybe not? You do take a chance with these off the shelf maps.

A reputable place like Shark Performance or Don at Kalmar Union will start off with your cars own map and modify that map - thus containing all the updateds your car requires to that point of mapping.

If you send your new updated original files off to RICA will they update them for free or do they take a new mapping fee or even some sort of update fee? If they will update for free, how many times will they do it for you? Not that Volvo update software that often, especially on vehicles that are already a few years old.

There is no charge for this at all from Rica.

We do not charge either as a Rica dealer. Some dealers may charge a small fee for their time, but not for the actual upgrade itself after an update from Volvo.
