Hi, as per the title what's the mpg figures like for the auto V70 compared to the manual? Different sites suggest different figures.

Cheers.

I've got a S80 D5 (163 bhp) 5 speed auto (not geartronic) with 158,500 miles and I'm getting around 39 to 40 mpg according to the trip computer based on mixed use, with an average speed of about 30 mph.

I'm sure if I was using it on motorways it would be more economical but I'm quite satisfied with the economy as is.

You've just made my day! The figures on auto trader was suggesting 25mpg!!! And I was wondering if I could afford it.

I'm going to look at a 06 plate d5 de geartronic with 70k FSH. Any advice on what to look out for would be gratefully appreciated.

Not wanting to pee on your chips here, but I've got a feeling a '06 D5 might be a Euro IV engine, not the Euro III we've given consumption info for.

If it has a black engine cover it's a Euro III, if it's a silver engine cover it's Euro IV.

The Euro IVs are more powerful but less economical. There are some other differences too around DPFs and suchlike, but I'm rapidly getting out of my technical depth here so will wade back into the shallows before I drown.

Don't rely on obc derived mpg calculations. They vary from accurate to 20% optimistic.

Surely euro4 can't be that much worse?

My 55 plate 185bhp Geartronic does 38.5mpg, which is measured brim to brim not by the computer, that puts me in the mid 40's! Mainly short 7 mile trips to work and back, with the occasional 200mile a day run down south to visit relatives to keep the dpf happy!

V70 D5 Geartronic, 2004 MY, 163 bhp.
No dpf to worry about.

Mainly motorway runs, a true 43 mpg, computer says 55 mpg.
It's the least accurate trip I have ever come across.
