V70 electric windows
This probably isn't a problem, but it's been driving me nuts for a while and I've finally snapped enough to ask.
So... I drop the window down cos it's a nice day. Then when I give the button a tap to make it go up again, the window goes up for a bit, stops, then comes back down again! What??!! It doesn't matter how far down the window is, it'll do it. Sometimes, if the window is all the way down, it'll get almost all the way up before changing its mind and going all the way back down again. Sometimes, if it's halfway down before I try to make it go back up, it'll only go up an inch or so before going back down further than I'd had it before. Sometimes, it'll do it once, then behave, sometimes it'll do it every single time I try to rise the window. And then every now and again, it will just go all the way up like it's supposed to, first time. The only way to make certain it goes all the way up is to hold the button for the entire time it takes to close the window. Baffling. At first it was just one of those quirks. Now it's the third summer it's been doing this (only bought the car two years ago) it's starting to get properly annoying and passers-by in car parks are a bit scared of the strange man shouting at his car while he's still in it. Is it a normal function of the car or is there something going on? It's an 06 V70 D5, in case you need to know. |

Its something to do with where the car thinks the top of the window is, it just needs to learn where the close point is. Mine does the same, but I dont know how to reset it properly.

The window track needs a clean and probably some silicon spray. Because the window is stiff in the track, the car thinks that there is an obstruction.

Sounds about right. The window operates smoothly enough and never seems to get stuck, but if the motor thinks it's sticking, then it probably will.
How would I spray it - would I have to dismantle the door or could I just wind the window all the way down and then give the gaps on either side a quick spray? |

Wind the window all the way down, clean the track as best you can, spray both sides with silicon spray and run the window up and down a couple of times. Should be ok then.

Bit of algacide wouldn't harm either. The feltier bits of the seals seem to swell as the green stuff takes up residence. Scrub with a toothbrush and some detergent.

It most likely needs resetting via VIDA/DICE. No amount of internet solutions such as raising it, lowering it, holding it closed whilst clicking your heels together 3 times and saying "there's no place like home" worked for me...a simple reset did.
