Good Idea! I think I'll join on Sunday then!

So what can I expect to see at a BKV?
(apart from a load of Volvos !!)

The National BKV the other weekend was my first - and well worth the drive from sunny Berkshire. There were Volvo's there to interest everyone from the immaculate 'show car' type to the much loved workhorse / daily driver to the the more individualistic customised type accompanied by just about every sort of owner that you can think of. One thing I really enjoyed was meeting people who I had chatted on the forum to - sad to say I didn't catch up with everyone I was looking for though! There were stands selling 2nd hand parts etc - I'm not sure whether the Northern BKV has these.

Provided I don't have anything in my work diary for the 5th I will definitely be driving up - SWMBO who is not usually into this sort of thing enjoyed the national so much is up for this one!

Thumbs up

I'm on holiday up in Scotland when this is on so won't make it.

But echo everything Ian said, diverse people and cars, great atmosphere and social day.

Met members from all over UK, Holland, and Ireland and just had a great time. Was my first but will attend everyone I can.

Will anyone be interested in having a drive out over the North Yorks Moors on the Saturday of this event? Or will this be treading on the toes of the organisers, is there something else planned?

Was thinking; set off from wherever you are on Saturday morning (campsite, Home, etc.....), meet at the viewpoint above hole of horcum (large car park) drive over the moors to Robin Hoods Bay for fish and chips, drive back over the moors, stopping off at "The legendary Saltersgate Inn" for refreshments if required, through Pickering and back to Malton.

For those who don't know the area, this is a fantastically scenic drive.

If this is not going to interfere with the event and if anyone fancies it let me know and I will draw up some route details etc.

I agree this is a lovely drive, there is usually nothing organised for the Saturday, please note though the Pickering Steam Traction Rally is on the same weekend of the Northern BKV, and apart from traction engines they have some other classic vehicles, trade stands, autojumble etc, well worth a visit. I believe this is a huge event, see you at Malton.

BKV is an acronym for Best Kept Volvo.

Thanks Kev, will sort something out so that it doesn't take all day giving anyone who wants to spend a couple of hours in the afternoon at the steam rally. Think they have a lot of classic cars at this event too so may be of interest to quite a few people.

I'm now a VOC member! Paid up yesterday, got a reply and my membership no. within a couple of hours! Talk about efficient, I certainly wasn't expecting such a fast response.

Should make the BKV on the Sunday, but can't make the drive on the Saturday as I am working in the morning. Does anyone know if there will be any trade stands or auto jumble, or is it just a show your car type event?
