Duxford
Just seen the 'Look East' newsclip on the opening of the new exhibition hanger at Duxford.
Looks fantastic, with Concord, a Lancaster, a Hastings, Mosquito, Lysander, that I saw in the clip. Hanger covers 3 acres!! Its not cheap £14.95 adult, £13.00 for a group with 20 or over, £11.50 for all you pensioners out there. Kids under 16 are free. Just wondered if anyone might be interested in a V.O.C/Forum day out there? Not before September, obviously, cos of holidays etc http://duxford.iwm.org.uk/ Its just off the M11 at Junction 10 Just a thought, because I know quite a few forum members are aircraft enthusiasts as well. Anyone interested, register here with possible dates(?), and I'll contact Duxford to see their reaction. Have to avoid the 'Airshow' days cos you can't move then, and the prices go UP!

Duxford is definitely worth a visit, especially now the new hangar is open. When I went in May it was open, but not finished so some areas were still 'out of bounds'.
Airshow days are actually good value at £20 per adult and £8 per under 16 given that it includes admission to the museum. For myself, the Mrs and the Brat £48 for the mueum + airshow seemed good value compared to £30 for just the museum. We arrived at 09.30am and had no trouble parking and no queueing either. Traffic Control by Cambridgeshires' finest seemed to be working fine! There's also a free 'Park & Ride' service from junction 11 of the M11 in case the queues to get off at Jnc 10 got too bad. The airshow itself was fabulous. It started at 2pm and lasted until 5pm giving us 4 1/2 hours to look around the museum beforehand and an hour afterwards. The displays took place in such a way that they were visible from a wide range of places along the runway. All in all a top day out. A thread with pics of the May Airshow is here:- http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=37805 |
