Default Rev Limiter

Not long had my D5 S60. A superb car with one quick engine in it.

When utilising all that power I have found that the rev limiter neddle doesn't appear to hit a limiter when it goes into the red.

Should it or do diesel engine work differently?

Cheers,

Nick

Keep an eye on your rear view mirror and when you can see nothing for the black smoke you know the revs are at thier limit!

Must admit, I don't think my rev limiter has ever come in so perhaps there isn't one? seems unlikely though.

I thought that all diesels had rev limiters and that the function of this is checked at MOT test, hence early diesel emissions MOT's tests killed hundreds of motor's. Now the tester should ask if the belts and service history is ok before doing emissions check. At least they did with my last diesel (about 4 years ago so I could be (probably am) out of date!

I've yet to see the cloud of black smoke behind me, so maybe haven't found it yep. :P

Well if I haven't got one and its need for the MOT I'll find out this time next year...

Cheers for the responses guys
