It would be interesting to know how many keys make a 'set' because that would give us a clue to just how insecure the system really is .
There are only 200 McGard patterns.
I recently lost mine and found a matching one on a Volvo that was four years older.

Default Can't get McGard Nuts off

I am looking for some advice on removing McGard locking nuts. At some stage they have been put on so tight that I cannot get them off. I have the key but has pretty much rounded in my efforts to get the things off.

I have heard that there are some tools on the market that will help. any recomendations? My last option is to have them drilled, not sure I want to take this on myself so would probably be costly .

Any recomendations or advice is welcome.

Thanks

Hi. have a C70 cabrio. Wheel nut key just spins on the head of the nut. Do you recall the manufacturer of the product you bought or where you bought it from?

thanks

McGard have often been able to provide a new wheel nut removal tool if a photo of your existing locking WHEEL NUT on the car is emailed to them .

Worth a try.

Once off, throw them away and replace with a standard wheel bolt as the Mc Gard's are absolutely dreadful .

Don't sell them on as you are only inflicting the misery on an unsuspecting buyer.

If you do a search on here you will find many many threads all with the same issue. As for drilling it took me three hours to get one off so I do understand.

Imagine this happening when you have a puncture on a rainy night a couple of hundred miles away

Lastly, when did you hear of Alloy wheels being stolen?

It's a craze that has long since past.

Oddly, about a year ago I did hear of a pensioner in Norfolk who had the wheels nicked off of his Kia CEE'D. Why??? is a totally different question

I'll take my chances without the McCraps Dave.

I always thought that locking wheel nuts were to prevent someone without the key removing the wheels.

These SH!T things, with monotonous regularity do the same to the owner .

Probably for the tyres. And if carefully you put your old wheels back on then the bald tyres might not be noticed for months...
