When my car was in for major body repairs, the estimator took photos of unrelated items like odometer and tax disc, and sent them with photos of the damage to the insurer. I would not be surprised if other things were checked to ensure no undeclared mods were in place.

Apparently some insurance companies consider any changes to the standard spec as a modification but there are others that only see additions to the car once it has left the factory as modifications.
Would be good if we had a list of insurance companies and what they want declaring and whether they charge extra. Will be hunting around for insurance next week so will see what I can find out then.
