You can get V's (149mph) but you will pay a lot more for the privilege. I heard they wear quicker as they are made with a softer compound, but I have no personal experience and it's usually rolling resistance that's a better indicator of wear. Softer tyres usually have a lower rolling resistance.

personally I'd stick to the H rated ones.

I forgot to say that high demand means that it's hard to locate any winter tyres at the moment. Most people are sold out. OPONEO may have some and are probably the cheapest at the moment. Vredenstien's are out of stock everywhere until August. OPONEO had Nockian's last time I looked. Also Pirreli Sottozero II. They are V rated ;-) Tyres with decent tread are like gold dust at the moment.

Time to change my front set of 17" continentals which have done 17,000 miles since new. Am a little disappointed with the wear and am thinking of Nokian Entyres which are a new all year tyre developed for the US market. Priced at 120 shipped or 133 fitted from mytyres. Grateful if anyone has any experience of these

I don't know about this. Reading the Nokian website, it states that the tyre is designed specifically for North America.

I remember when I used to run Goodyears on my T5 that I had to be careful as to their source. Tyres imported on the cheap from the USA did not perform anywhere near as well as those designed for our climate, namely Germany or China. It was a real problem because Goodyear started to receive bad reviews for their Eagle F1 tyre despite it actually having a very good reputation, and it being a good tyre.

I would at least email Nokian customer services and get their view. The WR G2 SUV has received good reviews in this thread.

Hope this helps.

And you can run them all year round. I think it says they are designed for it on the Nokian web site if I remember correctly.

JimG be very careful importing tyres from the states, I think (and I stand to be corrected) unless the have a euro 'e' mark you can fail your MoT and also in the unfortunate event you have an accident and your vehicle is inspected, your insurance company may be making enquires.

What is the general opinion of the Continental Cross Contact UHP? JimG above says it was fast wearing?

Looks like I've bought a 2007 D5 SE now so will probably be replacing all four tyres in the Autumn.

Nokian users: Any noticable increase in a-road/motorway noise?

Rgds

Thanks Ted,

That's the reason I was careful about the source of my tyres, I did not want to fit US tyres.

I seem to remember the complaints about the Cross Contact were that they wore around the shoulders. I would always recommend you have a digital alignment check carried out by a competent and trusted operator if you have any sort of uneven tyre wear. Volvos seem prone to poor alignment.

This thread has thrown up some very good advice, inflating to 39 or 40 psi was another recommendation as well.

Hello I am using the WR G2 SUV Nokians and I have noticed a slight noise increase over the Cont's when running at normal pressures ( and a slight chirp on corners, depending on speed ), but I actually think they are quieter than the Conti's when running at eCO pressures. ..... but overall a Soooooooooo much better tyre in all areas, to be recommended IMO.

Hope it helps

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. I have emailed Nokian about the ENTYRE and will post again with the response I get. Without doubt the Nokian WR G2 SUVs get good press but are expensive at 180 each fitted. Alternatively, the General Grabbers look a good all year favourite. In the end you get what you pay for though.
