XC60 - D3 vs D4 ?
Hello All,
Just a quick question.. can anyone tell me the difference between a D3 and a D4 as far as an XC60 is concerned ? I'm off to look at a D3 ( Registered 2012 - 163hp ) tonight.. but the new ones seem to be D4 specced. Many Thanks, > Guy |

I thought D3 was the 2litre znd the D4 the 2.4 litre. Both 5-cylinder motors. It's hard keeping up with Volvo model changes.

you must remember the terms D2 D3 D4 D5 are now NOT engines but Power ranges ... This isnt correct but something like: D2 = 100 - 120 bhp D3 = 150 -170 bhp D5 180-220 bhp If you can get anything with a D4 in in the S40/V50/C30/C70 range of two years ago it is a cracking 177bhp engine in my opinion, better than the D5 ..

I would hazard a guess that a peer underneath to see if there's a prop shaft and diff at the back would see if it's AWD?

... and goes like nothing else! Had a V50 D4 auto as a rental not long ago in Sweden and it was a rocket on wheels!

I've also seen a D3 for sale which seems attractive and I too wondered about the differences. This link tells you more.

AFAIK (Certainly in C30s) the D3 and D4 were both 2.0 5 pots, just at different BHP Levels.
Personally, I'd just find a D5 |

The 3/4/5 only refer now to the power output position in the chart. A D2 isn't always a 4 cylinder (at least it isn't planned like that) and a D4 isn't always a 2.0l.
