Talking Joined the XC90 ranks.

Well today I just picked up a new (to me!) XC90. Its a 54 plate D5 SE with pretty much every extra on it except sunroof and satnav/coms.
Silver with black leather. Winter pack, side running bars, RSE DVD player, premium sound and a towbar. I could not have speced it better myself!
Just drove it back from Stoke to Leeds, glided all the way.

I will still be keeping my 160,000 mile V40 for Mrs HB, as at 12 years old its still a puppy!

I have the rear luggage cover...not sure I will ever use that.
Also got given a wierd net thing with a foam covered bit of steel that looks like a crank handle...what are these???

hi,

its possible the "cranking handle" thing is the handle used for lowering the spare wheel down.the handle is stored behind the battery under the boot floor where you will see the hook that is turned to lower and raise the spare wheel.the netting could be cargo netting that can be put over items in the boot and then attached to anchor points in the boot floor.i bought my xc90 at a dealers in stoke.

regards peter.

Hi Peter, yes it is a cranking handle, it has a removable foam sleave, presumably to stop it rattling round.
I have not worked out hown the cargo net fits yet. Though I have discovered that it folds up and zips into its own pouch!

My car came from Ryebrook volvo in Chester originally.
Since 2007 its has been serviced at a different garage each time, with latest (inc cambelt) being done at Murf's Autos in Newcastle, Staffs.

the net fits a bit like a dog guard in how it fits. It does explain how to fit it in the owners hand book.

You unfold it and fit the metal bar into the slots above second row of seats and at the sides, then strap the bottom to the cargo hooks on the back of the seats.

Wink

Thanks chaps. Found it on page 88 of the manual.
So in summary, I have a security cover that I have to leave at home if I want to be able to use all seven seats.
And the security net also only fits behind the second row of seats, so MIGHT get used on camping trips, but will be keeping the security cover company in the garage in-between times.

On a side note, I changed the pollen/cabin filter yesterday for a £25 carbon one. The old one was fairly aged, the foam around the edge had gone black.
I thought I had broken the new one trying to fit it. Then I realised that it is MEANT to hinge in two places!
