Usually that's the case but you could try Seafoam and an Italian decoke. It might not be the EGR valve but that's one of the common causes especially if it sounds like the popping is in the inlet manifold.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Seafoam-S...e/383969218864

Link to that one ^^^^^

The one i was thinking of comes with a long tube to spray into the throttle body with the engine running, i can find the petrol one but not the diesel version. I can't remember the exact sequence but it's roughly spray half the can in through the throttle body/air intake after the MAF with the engine running then switch off and open the throttle (always open on a diesel) and empty the can and leave it to soak. Might be a need to turn the engine 1/4 or 1/2 a turn to make sure it gets everywhere it should but can't remember.

An Italian Decoke is basically a good thrashing, driving it like you stole it, if necessary dropping a gear or two to prevent speeding tickets dropping on the doormat!

Just read that seafoam is not for use in diesel air intake systems
SO, that either means adding to the oil
or, stripping down and cleaning, not sure how easy that is, will have to look on Vida, i remember doing an EGR once but that was a good few moons back and my back was ok back then, bend over the engine bay is a big killer

I think i did this to perhaps the S80 T6, certainly did it to that or a laguna 1.9 lol

What are the negative effects of doing this, if any?
