1990 740 GL estate for sale
I have a late 1990 manual, petrol-engine Volvo 740 GL estate for sale. MOT until March 2016 and passed MOT with one advisory that “nearside rear seat belt flexible stalk damaged but not likely to lead to failure under load”. 146,000 miles recorded but speedo cable has failed about six years ago so actual mileage more like 180,000 at a guess but cannot give you completely accurate figure (apparently MOT testers do not drive cars so do not see that speedo not working as I found out recently). No other problems with electrics. Electric sunroof. Body work excellent apart from couple of tiny spots on bonnet. No crashes ever. Two owners including myself. Has had new crank sensor in 2015, new front discs and pads end 2013 (and not much used since then), new ball joint and steering rack gaiter early 2013. I have details of all services etc back to date of purchase in January 1993. Would like £700.
I’m afraid I am completely non-technical but will attempt to answer questions. You are very welcome to come and look. If interested, please do not tell me if you are going to break the car. I am very attached to this car and only selling because now need wheelchair accessible vehicle. Last edited by EileenM; Nov 10th, 2015 at 12:54. Reason: Add photos |

Now sold
Obviously my car of no interest to anyone here but delighted to report that I sold it yesterday at very close to asking price to a young man who plans to run and use it. Happy that it will live to drive another day.

To be fair this car was not posted here for long until sold, I suspect advertised elsewhere for longer and here as a last resort. Facelift 700s aren't so popular with enthusiasts looking for one (not that there are many 700 enthusiasts - more's the pity).

I am not at all surprised that it sold quickly. It was a very tidy honest looking representative of a late 745 GL Estate. It was an attempt to get some front end lines into the car designation about to morph into the 900 which at the time was acceptable stylewise. There is a likeness to the then upcoming 850 front, but different! You just have to pause and envisage how those rather upright front end lines have now developed into the sweeping spaces between lights, grill and bonnet lines as styling has become so much a part of modern cars.
