Default Scorched 740 for parts

I had a potentially serious incident with my E-reg 740 which I was readying for service after its 3-year slumber when my mother was ill.
It had a fuel-flow problem and like a fool I was playing with fuel around the injectors with the battery still connected - result, a spark ignited it. Good job I had water available (no extinguisher of course) but the damage was done. Everything forward of the engine that could melt has, and the osf wing plus bonnet are scorched.
Therefore obviously sensible to use car for spares: I have another so some bits will be going, but if anybody wants a good light blue velour interior, good alloy wheels, doors, a near-new auto box or in fact the entire car for spares, please advise. Car in large store near Littlehampton, Sussex, next to my Volvo 164 which had its cover singed badly too! Any questions please mail audakt@tesco.net for non-members.
Failing interest it will go for scrap I'm afraid.

hi, sad to hear about the accident its heartbreaking when things like this happen and the trouble is they happen all to quickly

im interested in your blue velour parts, could you post up a picture of the interior so i can confirm the pattern etc is the same as mine.

what condition is the headlining in?

also do you have a load liner or a load cover for the rear?

kind regards ben

The 740 above is a saloon.

The Jersey fabric style headlinings generally do not survive.

A popular headlining replacement is from a 945, or alternatively there is a step by step guide on how to sort the headlining out. Take a look under"articles", then 745 headlining, DWMs contribution is excellent.

Thanks for interest, Ben. Yes, it all happened in a flash - literally. It could have been far worse though - my hands were wet with petrol, and the entire storage place could have gone up. It contains about 70 cars, caravans and boats - there would have been a lot of angry people if it had.

Regret this machine/browser can't put photos on here - we tried ages ago. The blue velour interior in the 740 saloon is unblemished, and I can mail you a pic if you care to mail direct. I haven't forgotten Prufrock's reserved bits!

The headlining is as saggy as most seem to go, the speedo was intermittant as was the fuel gauge from when I bought the car over 6 years ago, but as everybody says, a lovely drive.

Hello Paul

Not a good idea to dice with death! Glad to know you survived intact. Would it be possible to come down to LA at some point to see what's available?

PM sent, Wilmot, but if can't read them yet, mail direct (address on first notice).
Second dibs on interior if Ben doesn't want, lots more not claimed yet! Advise when available, but will be at Bentley Volvo Gathering on Sunday. Can you go? Otherwise not always here as son is moving and I'm his labourer !
