Does anyone know a reputable place to buy them? I have found some on eBay and a few other online shops but I haven't heard of any of them and the price varies by around £100.

Should be Luke, it's the same chassis/body shell for the most part, again my front ones were listed for all 7/9xx models so should be fine.

If you're lowering it, you may need the modified strut top mounts to reset the camber angle but that won't effect the shocks.

Thanks Dave, I will be getting the B8 as they are shortened so they are more suitable for the 40mm lowering springs. I will also be getting the camber/caster adjuster plates and getting it on the 4 wheel alignment machine at work and doing it all properly.

Most 40mm lowering springs are designed for use with full length dampers. Adding pre load often does not work well with lowering springs.

I had a look at the B6 and it says they are designed for standard height springs where as B8 are designed for lowering springs. I will send the seller a message and see how much shorter they are than the B6 dampers and report back.

Might pay to do likewise with the springs Luke, if both are the same amount shorter than the free length of the standard units, i don't see a problem.

I get what Dai is saying though, if the free length of a -40mm spring is the same as a standard spring (to prevent the spring falling out of the hanger for example and keep some compliance on the ride) then taking that out by using shocks that are 40mm shorter on their free length could result in problems.

I know on the Rover 827 Vitesse that had a ride height 20mm lower than the rest of the standard range, shorter shocks were originally used, coil over shock units at the front with double wishbones and a trailing arm/control arm arrangement at the rear with the shock providing a mounting point for the suspension and the lower arm acting as a lower wishbone.
Later however, they used shorter springs, standard shocks and thicker ARBs to give a more compliant ride but still with the same enhanced handling/reduced body roll.
