It sounds like they replaced the battery and not the alternator.
A bad regulator -routinely replaced part of the alternator- is one cause of flickering and that has not been addressed. Is your garage any good? Be aware that there is a high beam relay and they can go bad...as can the stalk (aka switch). Automotive electrical problems can be elusive. Checking the cleanliness of grounds (completion of circuits) is a universal advice. A universal test is to start and idle the engine with the AC fan, radio and even the wipers on and the doors open (for load). If running two of the power windows simultaneously causes a big dip in your lighting, you've a bad regulator. The original style instrument panel has symptoms like the high beam blue light failing to go on and run-on digits in the clock element and more if it's bad. Vida will not flag up the alternator fault (well it didn’t on my car) You need to have an alternator specialist to diagnose it or just bite the bullet and replace

still, the way I look at it, if it stays with me for 5-6 years (half way through that already..) then the annual budget is peanuts compared to hire purchasing and it's being kept in very good working order, so I should be able to sell it and recoup a decent amount Last edited by stuart bowes; Feb 2nd, 2024 at 12:45. |
