Default Hunt for the Inlet Throttle valve/flap

Hi,

I have a volvo s40 2.0 D MY 2005

Could some one please tell me where the Inlet Throttle valve/flap is located.
I'm having trouble with my car chocking/shuddering between the 1600 - 2000 rpm range. Runs very rough.
Seems to be very obvious when the car is trickling along on these revs no matter what gear.
It has also had it cut out after starting in the morning a few times.
At other times I get no problem. Car does start fine in the morning no puff of black smoke.

It been into the dealers no code errors.

Revs below/above this range car behaves fine. I've just replaced the fuel filter and the oil filter and oil to rule out the basics.

Photos, diagrams, or a good explanation of where it is. Anything would be helpful. Save me having to rip the car to bits.

I've been told by one helpful person that it could be the throttle valve/flap so i'm working of this suggestion. But anyone else have ideas. please share them.

Thanks again Kebab.

I've had a look around but still not exactly sure where this thing is sat.
Someone mentioned it is in a different place year on year of car releases. My car is MY 2005

Does this device sit after the air filter? Air filter pipe goes behind the engine and there is no way i can get to that.

OR is it something that sits between return exhaust gases ie. connected to the exhaust manifold.

Closest explaination I can get is it is somewhere in the middle of the engine where the inlet manifold is.

What i'm trying to get at is.. What pipe connects to the throttle flap. Any explanation to where it exactly is.

Search again for the "throttle flap" and you will find something like 25 threads. In some of these is a picture of the throttle flap. Basically, take off the big engine cover, in the middle of the engine you will find a large black rubber pipe. It is quite literally midway in the bay. Loosen the jubilee clip and pull it out of the way.

This is similar to the throttle on older petrol cars. Have a look with a mirror and you will find the flap that is the root of the problem. Simple really.
