Default Battery Voltage Reading

Anyone know what volts a fully charged Volvo battery in new condition should read on a 2013 V40 D4 5cyl? Mine settles at 12.65V which I think is a bit low, but not sure.

If that's with engine off it's fine.

Thanks for that. I know its fine, just keen to know what a genuine battery in perfect condition (engine off) should read so I can determine the health of the battery.

Battery voltage depends whether battery was left disconnected and untouched for 3-4 hours, or battery sits in the car with some car modules draining the battery when doors are open.

Approximate voltage under load vs state of charge in VW cars, see attachment.
I found no such data for Volvo, but you can read the State of Charge with ELM327.

Thanks guys. I think I need to invest in a battery tester to check the condition of the battery every few months.

This car has stop/start plus very low usage, just 27000klms, and in combination destroys batteries very quickly.

Already replaced 2 batteries and a third isn't far away.

thats very good ,
The car has built in battery management and a several pages of very detailed Battery and charging system information and Data is available to download by the dealer . I would keep monitoring the voltage and watch for any drop . You are using the correct AGM volvo Stop/Start battery I assume .

Just checked the battery voltage again - now reading 12.31V. Shouldn't be losing so much so quickly.

I'm using Volvo AGM battery but will not be buying another. At $375 they are a rip off, they don't last (or haven't with me), and only come with 12 months warranty. Worse still, it's quite a laborious job to replace thanks to where they've positioned it.

Yeah, they love to charge down here; would be a little more palatable if one got the support and to warrant the extra $$.

Anyone know if I'll get a warning to replace the battery when the time comes?

Did you lock the car between tests? because the car is only fully “asleep” once the car is locked.
