Eliminating those annoying squeaks...and rust..
Just spent around 5 hours on the car working on eliminating squeaks and rattles... i've ordered some foam anti rattle tape from the 'bay and whilst i'm waiting for it to be delivered i though i'd start the job off and see what else there is to do.....
Pull out the glove box, and the side kick panel and peeled back the carpet.... 1 rust hole through the wheel arch.....which has led water in unnoticed over time..... which has rotted 2 holes into the floor, one about 1 inch square, and the other 3 inches long across the running length of the frame area where the jacking point is.... so i begin to pound and poke the rust out and the scabby rotten metal, on all three, as much as i could with a screw driver, then i painted the rusting spots with KURUST which is a rust eating inhibiting compound and once that was dried i sprayed on a few coats of hammerite straight to rust paint once this was dry, i bridged the hole with a piece of tin metal, 2inch square piece, with some isopon p38 body filler, let it set, then on the outside, i filled the hole with more filler, which today i'm going to buy more body filler / and some underbody sealer.. I'd have it welded, but A; i'm on a tight budget, B; i'm on a crappy part time job wage C; beleive it or not 'media city' manchester has no decent body shops around to do a good job i dont think.... I only need the car till next year or so then i'll be moving to Oz. for a year hopefully... |

See my project thread for rust repair in that area. Repair steel is roughly £5 for a massive sheet. I made up a repair panel, then had it welded in, I think it cost about £20 to have it put on.
