I did get a quote from my local independent Volvo dealer and they quoted one hour of labour to install the DRL software update. Can't remember the cost but it wasn't horrible. The software update just turns off the headlights in position 0 and activates the fog lights instead.

Of course the fog lights are supposed to be replaced with the OEM DRL kit but as that is no longer available I just fitted the fog lights with a pair of LED's. Just as visible in bright daylight and also give out a proper beam at night.

Now I have no idea if they will stay on when the headlights are turned on or if they would dim down so the update may bugger up the fog light part.

My current plan is to just get the headlights disabled in the 0 (off) position first as that way I should still have full control of the fog lights and will just have to remember to turn them on as required.

I do also have a CFE Ultra and this can automatically turn on the fog lights so they act as DRL's. It doesn't work unless the headlights are disabled in position 0. I found this out when I tested it on a friends C30 that does have its headlights disabled and it worked perfectly.

The CFE devices are no longer supported so that is disappointing but mine does work well for many of its features so I am glad I got it.

I will report back once I have managed to get the headlights turned off.
