Default Clutch Cable

Thought this would be an easy quick job...............and it was until....

Is it just me or is the bulkhead nut behing the pedal a nightmare to deal with?

Done it now by removing the pedal and stop bar but is there an easier way????

G'day.

I seem to remember, many moons ago, an article on just this subject by, I think, John Smith (correct me if I'm wrong, someone), the 140 register keeper.

Sorry I can't be more helpful than that, regards, C.A.

It isn't really necessary to put the nut back for the clutch cable to funtion, though personally I always do if only to **** off the next guy that works on the car

Its actually very easy, if you do it before anything else, just turn the clutch cable from the comfort of the engine compartment rather than attempt to turn the nut. I just wedge the nut unto a slightly modified ring spanner and let it dangle.

Years ago a friend of mine knew the cable on his 144 was going and bought a new one from Volvo and threw it in the boot. Eventually it went on a Sunday afternoon . miles from anywhere, so he called out the AA. The patrol man told him the cable had gone, but he wouldn't be able to get a replacement, it being Sunday afternoon. "When I bought this car there was some sort of cable in the boot, can you have a look what it is please" He then got it fitted by said AA man. How to make friends and influence people.

Nice guy then!

Agree over the technique, maybe you had fitted the nut I was trying to get off! Mine is now done finger tight with some copper grease on the thread so hopefully next time I'm ready for it!

I reality I fit them because the slight rattle without the nut annoys me, though youd have thought the cars make enough racket to drown it out!
