I see what you're saying now Mark, fairly sure that wouldn't help any though.

Thumbs up

Well, fellas, all is now well with the battery in my car.

Having taken out the battery again, in better daylight and with a bit more time,I have discovered and therefore believe that the 096 battery is the correct one for the car and here why:

At the back of the battery welded onto the wheel arch is a piece of metal which is designed and formed to fit over the protruding base of the battery. This holds the backside of the battery in place. With the battery hard up against this piece of retaining metal the oem threaded rod and the clip screw down tightly against the front side of the battery(terminals at the back,of course)

So there it is, a nice snug fit for the 096,far better than the 013 I took out.Granted,it is a tight fit and needed to dismantle the intercooler hose,But I am convinced this is the one for the job....

Thanks for the help,though

Had a feeling you'd find the lip on the back of the battery tray to locate the rear side of the battery Shaun and then secure it with the OEM clamp on the front side.

That was why i asked for photos of the battery and tray but glaad you skipped the middle bits!

More than likely!

On a side note but still battery related, i was thinking of upgrading to an 096 on my new beastie. Turns out i need a completely different battery tray with the battery mounted front-back along its length instead of side-side (ish - even that is at an angle) for the standard 049 - yes, it's tiny for a 2.0L engine!

The 2.2 diseasel uses the 096 as standard so could probably find bits in a breakers but i'll see how it goes first! Don't mine easy upgrades but there are limits!

It's a Honda CR-V Shaun, not quite as spacious as the 760 but still (just about) holds what i need it to and is easier for me to get in and out.

Although only a 2.0, it's about 150bhp and a bit lighter than the Volvo with a more efficient auto box so is livelier in general and (so far, since i renewed the knock sensor) seems more economical.

Also the heated seats and AC all work well which is a bonus!

Sad fact of life with the 7/9xx, they all seem to develop rust around the battery/washer bottle area of the wheelarches. Worth treating to prevent it going further though or cutting out and welding new metal in then treating etc.
I have a pair of front arch liners looking for a new home if you need a pair.........
