Cam shaft cover / intake manifold removal f.
At 170k miles and with swirl flap linkage falling off decided that it might be sensible to replace the swirl flaps etc..
So far so good injectors 2, 3, and 4, showing signs of moving, 1 and 5 hopefully will also after a soaking with penetrating oil. Struggling though to move the silver coloured pipe which runs over the camshaft cover as unable to part company with the rubber pipe at the front of the engine. Seems that this is not simply a pipe and rubber hose type connection that can be dismantled? Can anyone shed any light on where to disconnect this pipe (and move out of the way) so that I can remove the cam shaft cover and intake manifold? While I have the injectors out - should I be doing anything further to them before refitting? 2009 XC90 D5 185bhp. Unable to upload a photo but the pipe rises up the front of the engine just to the right of the intake manifold inlet over cylinder 4 and 5 diagonally, and down the back of the engine. Thanks for any assistance. Simon |

Do diesel injectors benefit from ultrasonic cleaning the same as petrol one do? Apart from that, I have nothing to contribute!

Checked mine
hi, Just had a look at mine and it seems that the rubber pipe is fastened to the metal pipe with a crimped ring, these are like jubilee clips but single use. See EZ hose clip for an example on the web.
I have recently encountered similar on a Ford fiesta and just opened them up with a screwdriver and pulled off the ribber hose. replacing with jubilee clips when re assembling. That said the hose on mine look very wells bonded to the ally so I would consider disconnecting the other ends of the rubber hoses, at the front. One goes to where the main top hose leaves the block for the radiator, the other end of it, (as it splits into a Y shape) goes further down and would need more investigation. Either way there is some water to remove from it first. Let is know how you get on.
