I know, but mine is just letting in air, I think (will know more tomorrow) so it's killing the vacuum to the turbo actuator in the process... Mounts must be fine, as apart from them all being new, when the hoses are linked by a pipe, there is no loss of vacuum, however the mounts will then be "soft" at all speeds...

Mike I don't suppose you have a photo of it fully assembled, just the top plate removed?

I've been told the way it works is quite odd, the shaft is off centre and turns clockwise in you pic. The black paddle looking thing slides from side to side, a simliar effect to a ****le engine. Is that true?

I managed to take a quick look at one in a scrap yard. There's a small reed valve on the rear of the pump. This is what I think is the cause of low vacuum on my D5 and possibly the cause of the hesitation some people experience.

Once the one I purchased arrives I upload lots of HD pics and explain how it works ..

Do we know who the pump is made by? Pierburg?

Maybe there is a service kit for it??

On the upside Shadeyman, I think I've solved the problem on mine - A quick test of the valve showed it to be working fine, actuating and opening/closing, and putting the Mityvac on the (new) engine mounts showed them holding vacuum fine, so, I can only assume, that someone, (possibly when the mounts were renewed?) has connected the pipes to the valve the wrong way round, so that as soon as the valve opened, it was dumping the vacuum side to the atmosphere, rather than the mounts side...

Have reconnected pipes correctly, and it runs just fine...

I presume also that it vents into the engine, as that's the easiest way to deal with oil in the output from the pump, as in the positive pressure rather than the vacuum side.
