Happy with parrot MKi9200
Hi
I have had my Parrot Mki 9200 fro a few years now and is very stable. screen simply sticks under the hazard warning switch and buttons fitted in line with auxiliary buttons close to gear shift. no wires visible at all. Make sure you have the latest software installed (free download from parrot website) as this gives voice control for answer or reject. The key thing with the parrot is how you decide to install it. If you use a normal sot lead, the parrot connects after the amplifier. When in use it cuts off all the cars outputs and replaces them with the Parrot output. This is fine if you just want phone calls, but the Parrott amp is weak compared to the Volvo amp. You will also loose reversing sensors beep when using the Parrot. If you want to preserve the good sound quality through the Volvo amp as i did you need to connect the Parrott to the optical circuit that drives the amp. This preserves the reversing sensors and plays the Parrott outputs into the amp giving fantastic sound, and volume control from the stearing wheel. I used an OASI unit for the connection, it simply connects between the optical input line and the amp. Parrott connects to the OASI unit and power is by a switched live and earth. I have photos and some instructions if you chose to go this way, just PM me with your email. Good luck

A quick update. After looking at many options I picked up an IO Play 2 of eBay for about £90. Its a similar concept to the Parrot MK 9200 however the Parrot has a 30W amplifier whereas the IO Play 2 has a 180W amplifier so sound quality is quite a bit better despite it being limited to the front speakers.
I got my local Halfords to fit it (£50) plus the cost of a SOT 045 lead. Hope this helps someone. |

Just fitted Parrot CK3100 with SOT045 cable to a 2005 XC90. Really easy to fit and works extremely well. It mutes the sound system and is a very high quality Bluetooth phone kit with noise cancelling which is simple to use.
https://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/volv...0-sot-045.html Not too pricey either! Has my vote and does whats needed to safely use the mobile whilst driving. |

Great solution and the parking sensor sounds are retained and Bluetooth streaming using the Dynaudio amp as the OASI interface retains everything else.

Here are some pictures of our install.
MKi 9200 screen, mounted on supplied bracket on drivers side under vent near light switch: Custom Volvo logo uploaded (I created a few of these and have about 4 or 5 to choose from): Menus: Quite pleased with the way it looks. Would be much neater integrated with the original steering controls. I believe Parrot have an interface called UNIKA which does this to an extent but wouldn't use the phone buttons on the remote, I understand it substitutes other buttons for the phone functions. Other than that very happy with the install.

When you are actually making a call the reverse assist cannot be heard.
This is because the parrot sends a mute signal to the radio and diverts the phone the front speakers. I have not found this to be a problem as I have yet to be in the middle of a call whilst trying to reverse into a tight space. I might just try not to make a call during delicate reversing manoeuvres But for 99.9% of the time this is just fine! |

Grom or Parrot?
Like many of you guys on this thread I've been trying to figure out the best way to bring my '03 XC into the smartphone/usb era. I've got Premium audio with sub and obviously want to use this set up while playing music or internet radio off my phone (I've used a Parrot amp in another car and its OK but don't want to go down this road again)
It seems there's 2 pretty acceptable ways to go. 1. install a Parrot via an optical converter (such as MMMI), keeping the power amp, console & steering wheel volume/fader/balance etc, controls and all speakers in the game, but have to use Parrot controller and display for phone as well - I've found the way the Parrot connects a little flakey, but not sure there's anything better. At least you get bluetooth connection included. 2. Install a GROM, which apparently interrupts the CD changer (so losing the use of that!) but retains steering wheel phone button control - which I like the idea of, don't want to lose the CD changer permanently though. There's also the Dension 500 but the GROM looks a better bet to me for the money So my queries are: As I have the useless minidisc player, can the GROM be patched into this instead? - I guess only GROM can answer this but the plugs look the same. I also have the Comms pack, Is this all now basically useless as well? (apart from the SW phone controls while using a GROM interface) I've surfed all the relevant threads but still feel a little in the dark. Any old hands with bitter experience of any of this, please share your pain... Thanks |

I looked into exactly the same thing (losing the minidisc) but for some reason its not possible, by the time you've bought MMMI or GROM or DENISON plus the bits and pieces your probably getting near buying a 7" carpal/android touchscreen (see BigAl's photo's) once you've sold your amp and stereo it could even be cheaper, it sounds like I've got the same set up as you but in a 2006 and I've been researching for months now, the only thing holding me debating if its worth the extra for a DAB unit or not.
