Question Extended Warranty/mot Insurance

Just bought a three years old S80 D5 and interested in taking out an extended warranty and MOT insurance.

Does anyone have any advice which would be useful?

Thanks

Read the small print carefully - things which often catch out the unwary:

Claim limits. e.g. they will pay £500 per claim, not the full amount.

Consequential damage not covered, e.g. the head gasket goes, the engine gets cooked, massive bill but they only pay for the original failure i.e. you get parts and labour to replace one head gasket but all the rest of the damage is out of your pocket.

Specific exclusions, e.g. the Turbo - often you have to pay an extra premium to cover the turbo

Servicing requirements - they may want you to get it serviced every 6000 miles on the dot or even with a specific franchise etc.

Usually they will not pay for diagnosis, so you have to shell out to find out what the problem is and only once that is done can you claim for the work.

Above all remember this is an insurance policy and not a true warranty so don't authorise anything to be done to the car without talking to the company providing the cover first.

Go into it with your eyes (wide) open and shop around and you should be fine. Hope this helps and was the sort of advice you needed.

Cheers,
J

Talking warranty

i took out a rac 5 star warranty, fault finding is not covered, also your car has to be serviced by a reconized dealer, then everthink that is mechanical and electrical is covered provided it has not worn out. 3 years cost about £400.have not had the chance to use it yet 2years on.

Red face Extended Warranty/mot Insurance Replies

I have been in contact with Warranty Direct and have a quote and I have one from Arnold Clark Volvo in Stirling. I am aslo considering Volvo's own 4th year warranty scheme as my S80 is three years old and over 40k I am only able to cover the next 20k or 12 months.

Thanks to those members who responded.

Cheers
