Think you need to find a mechanic that know what he's doing...there IS adjustment on the handbrake assembly.

Completely slacken off the handbrake adjuster in the center console, remove rear wheels and, using a screwdriver through the hole in the rear hub, tighten until the wheel is locked then back off until wheel rotates freely, do both sides then adjust handbrake until you get 5-6 clicks...
Pretty basic stuff...
