Alarm unit repair
I've had a replacement alarm unit on my shopping list for a year now and every time my local scrappy get a Volvo V70/S60 in I call in only to find someone has beaten me to it. Today I went looking for something else and found not one, but two alarm units.
I've opened them up and the first one was full of water and the board is black so I think it's safe to say that one is goosed. The other one has been warm around a couple of components and I'm planning to clean it up a bit and have a closer look. I can trace a repair damaged tracks but I'm not up to date with the components so if anyone can help identify them that would be great. What does the panel consider the chances of success? |

Ah that's better. So the components I need to identify are labelled D1 and D3 in that picture.

Oh my word, now I know what I'm going to find if I ever get round to opening up the alarms on my cars!

your diodes are ok.
the black is the denatured green resist plus copper oxide. The alarms do not have water in. The liquid is from the failed battery pack. It is nasty corrosive stuff. Clean off oll of it and when tested if working paint the board with a bit of laquer |

Ah, so the D of D1 and D3 refers to Diode, is that right? The board I'm tinkering with is in the top post not the nice clean one in the second post. The other unit I opened was the one I thought had water in it. What came out was like half a cup of coffee but I did wonder how it had got in there, just shows how much stuff those batteries contain.
