Diagnose windscreen washer failure
Hello
I am back to work on my V70 I am having an issue with the windscreen washer. When pulling the stick i just get a response from the nearside headlamp but no response for the windscreen and rear window and the other headlamp. The previous owner does have a vague memory of the front nozzle firing in the wrong direction so he got his local mechanic to disconnect it, however he does not know if it was done by removing a fuse or relay etc. My stickers in the fuse compartments does not show any reference to washers but it's in the users manual under no 16 which was empty i inserted a 15amp and still no response. any ideas or recommended checks to solve this one? Thanks |

It would help if you told us what year your car is then I could look it up on the correct wiring diagram.

Pardon my 2nd post (and if you are an administrator please delete it!!) as it was done sleepwriting.
I tested the socket at the washer pump with a my new tester (i saw it online at halfords for 10 but at the shop it was £17 they would not give it to me for £10 and i will need to order online until one worker claimed in my favour that their website should be under pricematch like any other retailer!!!) while inserting fuses in the empty slots until i got a signal i got a signal at fuse 16 however the pump was still not working so i bet i need a new pump i guess the amp is 15 can someone confirm please? I had nicked a volvo pump from another v70 2001 sometime ago, so i thought i was well equipped for worst case scenario. But I was surprised to find a ford washer pump!! when i thought i was driving a volvo and its a ford its so humiliating I am awaiting a new pump in the post and i will see what happens thanks |

So if the car is truly a 2005 model ( 2004/2005 was the change over year for a lot of electrical items)
Then there are 2 fuses related to washer pumps. I would say the second one is ok as you say you have one headlight washer working, so look at the first one. |

I connected the new pump from ebay that i paid 8 pounds it works great!!!
the cover for back windscreen wiper is missing so i ended up spraying the car behind me!!! So now for the windscreen washers anyone has an idea why only the passenger side is working? Last edited by MY V70T5; Dec 23rd, 2018 at 01:09. |

Assuming water is not pouring from a disconnected pipe in the bonnet, a blocked pipe or jet would be my guess, what's the pattern like for the working jet ? is there plenty of pressure ?
There is a single pipe running from the pump up between the inner and outer wing then it splits once its in the bonnet so problem must be in bonnet or jet. |

sorry for being unclear again the screen washers are working fine. It's the headlamp washer that only works on one side as mentioned in the first post
i would go for the blocked option, how would i unblock it? |

Not sure how much clearance you have between washer and lamp, but try sticking a pin in the jet to shift any blockage[just as you would with a screen washer nozzle]or-if there's room-try holding an airline on the nozzle and blowing any blockage "backwards" out of the nozzle. If either of these fail try disconnecting the pipe to the jet to make sure water is actually getting to the nozzle and it's not the pipework that's kinked/trapped squeezing it shut.
