I changed mine recently d5 163bhp...bloody tight fit, and i reused the old seal as the filter would not go on with the new filter seal. I used a strap wrench for removal and fitting.

I used a chain type oil filter wrench that my dad gave me, very tight for the first couple of threads once moving.

I need to do mine. I have a chain wrench and was going to use an old drive belt to protect the plastic casing of the filter as worried that without it could split the plastic.

Hi Dave,
Did you manage to get it off. The whole thing was flexing and I was scared to give it too much just in case it broke. Mark

Having the same trouble. I have a very good, half inch drive strap wrench and still mine wont budge. Very worried about breaking the plastic casing. Is there anything else to take off the filter casing before removal? Or is it simply a case of wrapping the strap around what is visible and applying pressure. At 6'4" & 17 Stone I suspect I have enough strength to break the casing.
