[b] Fitting A Throttle Cable
Has anyone had experience of fitting a throttle cable to an 850? Mine sticks - not dangerously but it makes driving in traffic somewhat jerky.
Any help and/or descriptions would be appreciated. |

From my experience the problem is usually not the cable but the drum the cable runs on to at the engine. The shaft the drum runs on gets dry due to engine heat, try dismantling it from the shaft and lubricating it with some high temperature grease. Be careful not to loose the 'E' clip.

just seen this!!! ive bought a new cable for my 850 T5 as it was starting to get "jurky" felt like the cable starting to dryout inside or pos fraying!?!?
i will try lubing the drum/roller first if that cures it i'll take the cable back unopened |

I had the same and a new cable was just the ticket. Very easy to fit, just follow the cable back and copy the route, takes about 10 minutes. just be careful to put all the clips on in the right orientation and use plenty of light under the dash area.

Not sure if the throttle on a V70 (1999) is the same, but mine is really heavy, requiring a fair amount of effort to "squeeze" under foot.
Under the bonnet the cable wraps round a pulley, this has a linkage attached to it which pulls on a lever which is returned by a spring. I removed the cable (which lookd fairly new) from the pulley and it moved really freely in both directions. Twisting the pulley by hand there was quite a resistance created by the spring, but not excessive. I lubed the hole area with wd40 and light grease, but the throttle when the cable was re-connected was still rather stiff. Any suggestions ? Malc |

Well what a difference.. Having left the car over night it seems my efforts have paid off. The throttle was nice and light under foot and I feel more "in-tune" with the car when driving.

also im getting much better fuel economy now in town and esp on motorways as the cruise control isnt over-throttling against a sticky cable im getting low to mid 30's at "real-world" motorway speeds
